Sino-European Research Forum and Winter Camp in Beijing, January 2013

The 2013 eBEREA Doctoral Winter School was held successfully on January 8 – 22, 2013 in Beijing, China, as well as accompanying with the Sino-Finnish Research Forum on Information Systems and Information Society – Concepts and Approaches (1.11-13.2013). It was one of the eBEREA international schools for doctoral students.  The Winter School is organized by: eBEREA – The eBusiness Education and Research Network for Euro-Asian Collaboration (www.eberea.org); and Renmin University of China (www.ruc.edu.cn/en1024) as the local host, with support from EU FP7 IRSES Marie Curie Program.

About 60 participants came from Europe, China and USA, including Aalto University, University of Jyväskylä , Åbo Akademi University, Delft University of Technology, China-Finland ICT Alliance, TIVIT, Sino-Finnish Centre of Tongji University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, State Information Center, Net Rule Research Centre, Renmin University, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics,  Xi’an Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Beijing University of Post and Telecommunication, MIT Media Lab, Texas Tech University, and Symantec (USA).  The invited speakers gave lectures and speeches for the doctoral students from both Europe and China. The doctoral students presented their on-going research work or working papers, and followed by group working and discussion sessions to proceed with the improvement of research papers for later publication and create joint proposals for later application.

The attendances visited the CERNET Center in Tsinghua University with a future Internet symposium supported by Information Technology Center of Tsinghua University. In addition, the Winter School organized an interesting industrial visiting to an impressive warehouse of 360buy located in Beijing, which is the one of the leading e-commerce companies in China.

This event was co-organized by eBEREA, the China information Economics Society (CIES) and TIVIT. eBEREA (The eBusiness Education and Research Network for Euro-Asian Collaboration) is a consortium promoting and facilitating eBusiness and eServices education and research, partly funded by European Union and the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
