PRESS RELEASE
Espoo 13.6.2013
With international cooperation towards the expanding science and research market in China?
Considerable investments in higher education and science in China have led to an international race for collaboration projects with China. Also Finland and Sweden have invested a great deal into expanding their activities and developing competitive networks in China. Why and how should collaboration with China be done in higher education, particularly within ICT? Can the Nordic countries afford not to go to China? At Hanasaari’s international high-level forum in Espoo on Monday June 17, 2013 experiences of collaboration projects will be shared and ideas for future activities discussed from a Finnish-Swedish perspective.
The forum Focus on China. A high-level forum on international cooperation in higher education and ICT brings together key actors and experts from China, Sweden and Finland. The event will be opened by Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Finland, HE Huang Xing.
At Hanasaari we work long-term with the aim of promoting debate in topical issues in higher education and research. The China-forum is an significant new international initiative, says CEO Gunvor Kronman.
The topic is particularly timely also from the perspective that Finland and China recently have decided to deepen their innovation partnership, explains Jaani Heinonen, Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Employment.
There is a demand in China for Finnish and Swedish expertise and education technology. We could make better use of it if we had closer cooperation between the different actors, including research, education and development of new technology-based solutions as well as their commercialization. The tested, functioning solutions that have been developed in the Chinese partnerships are also useful when aiming for other markets, such as Africa or other growing economies. This opportunity is not often discussed, states Director Jani Kaarlejärvi from TIVIT, the Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Field of ICT.
The Forum takes place on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 10 am – 5 pm at Hanasaari in Espoo, Finland. The language of the Forum is English. The program of the event can be found in Hanasaari’s Events Calendar. You can also follow a live stream of the Forum at www.hanaholmen.fi/stream.
